Praying

Good morning. I did a blog on praying back on June 19, 2015. This was done before I moved down to Chincoteague. I was finding myself again thinking on the subject of prayers and praying.

I saw on Facebook a post regarding praying. Someone asked how do they pray to God? Which again got me thinking. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Everyone has their own opinion. I also know that in today’s society, people get offended at times very easily when you give your opinion on something. I sincerely hope that you do not get offended by this post. It is my opinion, and as the “owner” of this post, that you respect my opinion, and add your thoughts to the comment section.

To me, praying is just a conversation to God. Just like you would talk to a friend, family member, professional, etc. There is no right way or wrong way to pray. Some will disagree with me because there is no response from God, it is not a two way conversation. I disagree with that thought. You may not get a verbal response, but you do get a response.

There is plenty of scripture supporting prayer. I am not going to get into all the scripture, I may point out some scripture, if you need more take the time to look it up in the bible on your own.

If found this on prayer, and I think it really pin points prayer, and what it means. The purpose of prayer in the Bible is to make your praise or request known to God. Through prayer, men and women of God were able to ask Him for deliverance, mercy, healing, and miracles. Praying is how Christians grow a deeper relationship with Christ and how they know the direction he wants their life to go in.

I believe that God does answer prayer. To me there are three responses to our prayer. The first one is a yes. Meaning He answered or granted what we have asked for. An example of a “yes” might be that you got the job that you wanted, or that you were healed from an illness, or someone that you know was healed from an illness.

The second response, which at times is the hardest response to handle, is a No. Why do I say that it is the hardest response? It is like asking your parent for permission to do something, and they tell you no. They do it for your own good. Even though at the time you do not see it. To me, that is what He is doing, trying to protect us from harm.

The third, and final response is a Not now. It is not a complete No, but a wait and see type of answer. Like the second response, we may not like the answer, but it could turn into a yes. For example, you ask your parent to go somewhere, and they say not right. That answer then could change to a yes at some point in the future, or it could be a no. This may be where He is trying to teach you something, a learning moment.

Let me bottom line it for you, and hope that you understand. As normal, please leave your comment. I would love to have a discussion with you regarding prayer. Prayer, is a just a conversation with God, asking for something, or thanking Him for something that He has given you. Take the time to talk to Him, but also take the time to listen. It may not be a loud response, but it could be a whisper. He will respond, but it may not be in our time frame.

  1. Good stuff, Joe!
How do you pray to God?
This was answered by Jesus himself in Matthew 6:9-13
“This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
