Helicopter View of the Bible Introduction

I am starting again to do bible studies here again. It has been a while since I have done one. I will be using either NIV, or ESV depending on my mood, and what God leads me to use. I have also found a great resource that will give me greater insight, which I hope that I will bring it to you. If you have any questions or comments please by all means leave them for me. Before I really get into the study, I want to thank Connor Derrickson for the picture above. I saw fell in love with and asked if I could use it. Thank you Connor.

I think what I am going to do is take 10,000 foot approach to the bible for right now, and look at both the books of the bible, and the author of the book. I would love for you to keep in mind as we are going through this, is that even though it was man whom wrote the books of the bible, it is actually God that wrote it, and “dictated” it to man. Where do I get this statement from, well take a look right quick at 2 Timothy 3:16-17: 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work., and also look at Hebrews 4:12: 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

There are 66 books in the bible. In the Old Testament there are 39 books, and in the New Testament there are 27 books. Now if you look at the authors, there are 29 in the Old Testament, and 8 in the New Testament. There are 8 books for whom the author is not known or sufficiently proven. Here are the books :Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1&2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, Esther, Job and Hebrews. I love the letters in the New Testament, as it give us instruction (I will further explain, when I get to the letters). I find that Matthew, Mark, and Luke (the Gospels) interesting also, because it gives the life, times, and death of Jesus from different perspectives. I read the book “Cold Case Christianity” by J. Warner Wallace. A great read, in fact I used it for a life group study at Chincoteague Church of God. It examines these books (The Gospel) through the eyes of a detective. I may be referencing the book, when I get to the Gospel.

My prayer right at the moment is that God will reveal to me exactly how to proceed, as there are so many books of the bible to discuss. So, please bear with me as I do this.

My hope and prayer is that you read the entire series, and learn something from it. I know that when I do this, I end up learning something from it. Please leave a comment below as to your thoughts.
